Art Vehicles Webinar on 27th November 2020,

at 13:00-15:00 Eastern European Time (12:00-14:00 CET)

The Art Vehicles Webinar is a chance to meet the artists selected for the art bus tour from Finland to Sweden in 2021. We will also discuss future plans for a journey across all Europe in 2026.

Art Vehicles are experiential journeys on an art bus that take participants to art destinations in the Arctic North and to events in the northern regions of Finland, Sweden, Norway and southwest Russia. We are now planning to expand the project into an event and an art network that will cover all of Europe. The webinar is designed for art professionals in Finland and elsewhere in Europe. We are particularly hoping to find participants along route E75.

The artists selected for the 2021 Art Vehicles tour are Staalplaat Soundsystem (Netherlands), Maxim Iliukhin and Boris Lesnoy (Russia), Mari Kretz (Sweden), ALOES (Netherlands), Tessa Astre (Liminka, Finland), Minka Heino (Vihti, Finland), Simo Rouhiainen (Espoo, Finland), Alena Tereshko (Russia), Arttu Nieminen (Rovaniemi, Finland) and Kirsimaria Törönen (Mikkeli, Finland).

In addition to the 2021 tour, the webinar will also cover future plans. Webinar participants will also include sponsor’s representatives.

The Art Vehicles project is produced by cultural association Kulttuuribingo and Artists’ Association MUU in collaboration with Arts Promotion Centre Finland. Other partners are Finnish Institute in Stockholm, Magneetti ry (Finland), Northern Norwegian Art Centre NNKS (Norway), Art North (Sweden), Friday Milk (Russia), Piteå Performing Arts Biennial (Sweden), Malý Berlín (Slovakia), Luleå Art Biennial (Sweden) and the City of Oulu.

Art Vehicles bus tour Oulu–Piteå–Luleå–Oulu – will you join us?
 
OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS – The Art Vehicles project is looking for performances, sound art, interactive and community artworks, literary art, installations, video art, photographs, interdisciplinary artworks – all kinds of contemporary art!
 
Starting from Oulu, crossing the border to visit Piteå and Luleå in Sweden and then returning to Oulu, the Art Vehicles bus tour 2020 is an interactive and experiential journey and a community art event that brings artists in contact with various audiences.The project is now looking artworks to be presented on the trip, at the stops and on sound art tours to be held in Piteå and Luleå.
 
The artists and audiences will ride on the bus, enjoying artworks in the bus and viewing site-specific works at the stopping points. The project aims to present a rich palette of highly interesting art in an accessible way.
 
The destination of the Art Vehicles tour is the opening of both the Piteå Performing Arts Biennial and the Luleå Art Biennial. The Luleå Art Biennial was organised for the first time in 1991, making it the oldest art biennial in Scandinavia. It is organised by Konstfrämjandet, a national organisation founded in 1947. The Piteå Performing Arts Biennial will be held for the first time in autumn 2020. It is organised by Piteå School of music, Studio Acusticum, Norrbottensmusiken and Dans i Nord, in collaboration with Kluster, Pitebygdens musikförbund, Piteå Konsthall and Regionbiblioteket.
 
The theme of the first Piteå Performing Arts Biennial in ecology. It will feature ecological sound art, site-specific works, dance and drama, cross-disciplinary works as well as film and video screenings.
 
The general framework of the project will be provided by the producers of the Art Vehicles project – Artists’ Association MUU, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, and cultural association Kulttuuribingo – while the artists will provide the content. We invite artists to supply or construct artworks to be presented in the bus, at the stopping points or in the destination towns of Luleå or Piteå.
 
The key selection criteria are site-specificity, community, audience engagement and accessibility. Each selected artist will provide a piece specifically tailored for the bus environment. Works completed or exhibited previously can also be presented, as well as footage or other records of existing works. All suggestions for artworks are welcome!
 
Matters relating to actual production (performers, facilities, materials, schedule) will be decided by the producers with the artist. The producers will be in charge of all publicity and marketing (also including publications and distribution relating to the project).
 
We will select 5–7 artists or groups to join the project. Depending on their work, they will be paid either an exhibition fee or a performance fee that range between 100 and 300 euros. Possible travel and accommodation expenses and daily allowances will be paid. Materials may also be paid at the project organisers’ discretion. The selection of works will be done by the exhibition team at MUU. The Art Vehicles tour will take place 23–25 October 2020 and travel Oulu–Kemi–Piteå–Luleå–Oulu.

The journey of the Art Bus from Oulu (F)I via Rovaniemi (FI) to the Insomnia festival in Tromso (NO), Norway. The journey will take place on October 24-27.

Insomnia is a festival for innovative electronic music – which means music created with electronic contraptions. The creative process within the genre is as varied as the music itself, and the festival hopes to display a wide variety of it. The Festival also combines new, innovative music with new technology and design through public seminars during the festival. It takes shape through live concerts, dj/club events, seminar, exhibitions, performance, installations and debates.
Insomnia festival is placed in Tromso in an environment that gives creative energy and mental space.

Price from Oulu 287 €/person and from Rovaniemi 277 €/person in shared Twin room. The travel price doesn't include the Festival pass. Art bus travelers will get a discount code that provides the festival ticket for 625 NOK (925 NOK) during booking the travel.

Artists’ Association MUU’s Art Bus will take artists, art enthusiasts and art professionals to the Insomnia festival for electronic music and related art in Tromso 24-26 October 2019

The journey of the Art Bus from Oulu via Rovaniemi to the Insomnia festival in Tromso, Norway, is the second episode of Art Vehicles, a joint project by MUU and Arts Promotion Centre Finland. The purpose of the project is to strengthen the collaboration between art practitioners in northern territories in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, to promote the mobility of artists, and to showcase art festivals operating in the region. The aim is also to create a concept of art festivals in the region for the use of tourism.

Tickets will be on sale in June 2019.

Artists’ Association MUU’s Art Bus will take artists and other art professionals to the Inversia festival of audiovisual art in Murmansk 7–9 February 2019

The journey of the Art Bus from Oulu via Rovaniemi to the Inversia festival in Murmansk, Russia, is the pilot episode of Art Vehicles, a joint project by MUU and Arts Promotion Centre Finland. The purpose of the project is to strengthen the collaboration between art practitioners in northern territories in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, to promote the mobility of artists, and to showcase art festivals operating in the region. The aim is also to create a concept of art festivals in the region for the use of tourism.

The artists invited from Finland to participate in the Inversia festival are MUU member Marloes van Son with Alex Marinus van Giersbergenin; Oulu-based VJ ensemble Liquid Space Dreams; and video artist Arttu Nieminen from Magneetti ry, who will perform with the Huminoita orchestra. Nieminen will also visualise a local musical act at the festival,and Tomi Knuutila from Magneetti ry will serve as expert in the VR/AR workshop.

The Inversia festival is organised by Fridaymilk, a Murmansk-based collective dedicated to promoting culture and media art in the Arctic region. The collective is dedicated to the decentralisation of culture and the relocation of centres from the capital region to sparsely inhabited areas. The themes of the 2019 Inversia festival include the phenomenon of Rexit – exiting from reality – along with sharing economy, digital escapism and alternative reality as the new norms of social and political life. inversiafest.com

Helsinki-based Marloes van Son builds electronics, installations and instruments. Her electromechanical instruments explore natural phenomena and Arctic experiences. Van Son has most recently focused on sound production, alternative compositions and instrument construction.

Liquid Space Dreams is a collective of VJs based in Oulu who have revived old-time visualisation. The group uses both analog and digital technology to create light performances.

Huminoita is a Finnish instrumental progressive rock band founded in 2009.

Northern Media Culture Association Magneetti ry will be represented by a team of eight artists, curators and producers operating in the field of media art.

Artists’ Association MUU, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, cultural association Kulttuuribingo, Oulu Artists’ Society and Northern Photographic Centre, Rovaniemi-based Northern Media Culture Association Magneetti and Piste collective, as well as Artists’ Association of Lapland will participate in the conference, panel discussion and future action planning organised by the Inversia festival.

The networking project is supported by Arts Promotion Centre Finland and the Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture (AVEK).
